New Symrna, Marineland and St. Augustine

We had a great time in Cocoa Village visiting Epcot and the Space Center but it was time to move on.

Originally we were only going to travel about 30 miles but we decided to pick up the pace a little and go all the way to New Smyrna Beach which was about 50 miles.  We were hungry when we got to the marina and the harbor master said there were some good burgers at the Lost Lagoon Bar and Grill about 10 blocks away.  Ginny and I walked up to Route 1 and we shared a burger and some wings.  Both of them were great and the beer was cold.  There was not much to see in the town so we headed back to the boat and spent the rest of the day napping and charting our course to St. Augustine.

 Leaving New Smyrna

We got up early and left New Smyrna by 7:00 headed for another 50 mile day to Marineland.  Along the way we passed Daytona Beach with all of the high rises.  After Daytona the Intra-Coastal gets very flat and the water starts to look a lot like the rivers we traveled in the Fall.  Some parts had houses along the river and there were some parts that were undeveloped.  We went to Marineland Marina which advertised $1.00 per foot dockage which for Florida is great.  The Marineland Park is right across the road from the marina but we didn't go in.  There is not much else around so we hung out at the boat and had hot dogs for dinner.

We only had 20 miles to St. Augustine but we left early (7:15) so we could spend the day touring. We arrived in St. Augustine about 9:30, got tied up and checked in and then we walked around the town for a while.  We bought tickets for the trolley that has 22 stops around the old town.  You can get on and off at any of the stops and the tickets are good for three days.  You can also use the tickets for a bus ride to the beach and the lighthouse which we plan to do today or tomorrow.  There is a lot to see in St. Augustine and it is all very close to the marina so we will get on our walking shoes and see as much as we can.  We are staying three nights and then we are heading for Jacksonville Beach and then Georgia so stay tuned.
