Chattanooga Choo Choo

Yesterday we went from Ditto Landing to Goose Pond Marina in Alabama. Goose Pond was fairly easy to get into with a well marked channel and there was plenty of room. The wind was up and we had some issues getting into the dock, but we made it with the help of others.

Several other Loopers were there and we had happy hour on our boat and then went to dinner with 4 other couples at a restaurant within walking distance. The food was OK but the company was great. The weather was cold and rainy when we went to bed but this morning it was just cold. We knew we had a long way to go today so we left at 7:00. There were 4 boats and we were led by "Passport" who did a great job. We had to go through one lock which was pretty easy but the current was against us and we did not make great speed.

We arrived in Chattanooga around 5:30 Central Time which was 6:30 Eastern. The dock was full but everybody pitched in to make room for us which was much appreciated.

The scenery was spectacular even though it was a very long day so it was worth it. I am not really sure what is on the schedule for tomorrow but I know that it won't start early.
Sid and Evelyn on "Something Special" who we are travelling with
"Muddy Waters" was in the lock with us and they were at Goose Pond.
It's a bridge, but it looks like a rainbow doesn't it?

A house on the top of the mountain.
Eagles - I think

Another nice house way up there.

This is where we are docked for the next two nights.

  1. Hello Craig and Ginny,
The scenery looks beautiful - nice fall colors. Glad you're making friends during the trip. It's much nicer to eat with company!

I just came back home from Switzerland for a few weeks' business trip. It's like my 2nd home. I have a lot of good friends there, too.

Craig - I saw Adrian Maerklin. He is still friends with Kurt Braendle, so Kurt invited Adrian to meet us for drinks. Adrian says to say hello, and I will forward this blog link to him. You may hear from him.

    Ciao,
    Joyce

  2. Craig and Ginny,

Nice to see you are back on the move! Sounds like the Looper seminars were well worth the time. We will have to find a way to attend in the next year or two...although it is hard for Marge to get away in the fall especially.

We have driven through Chattanooga a few times over the years on our way to Florida but have never stopped to look around. Perhaps we will just have to wait until we are on the loop to have a good look!

Well, MSU tripped up in Nebraska this weekend but Ohio State found some new life with their win over Wisconsin. Two weeks in row for the Badgers finding a way to lose right at the buzzer! What an emotional roller coaster that must be.

Enjoy your eastern swing and we will keep following your travels!

  3. Hi Craig- Good to see that you are headed for the sunny south. When you get close to Destin, FL, give us a call. We have Sunflower docked at Baytowne Marina, which is at Sandestin Beach resort. It is much nicer here than in Destin harbor, and only 7 minutes by golf cart from our house. Our cell number is 850 830 2562.
