Today we went under the mighty MAC bridge and we are now in Lake Michigan. We left around 7:15 today because we had about 60 miles to go. After you go under the bridge and if you want to go to the Michigan side of Lake Michigan you will go through Gray's reef. This means that you go due west until you get to the reef and then head due south to get through the reef. After we got through Gray's reef we had a choice to either go west to Beaver Island or South to Harbor Springs. We decided to go to Harbor Springs. I am glad we did because Ginny said she was going to jump ship if she ended up in another empty marina with nothing to do. Harbor Springs is in Little Traverse Bay and is directly across from Petoskey. After being in Lake Huron and not worrying about making reservations we thought Lake Michigan would be the same. We called on the radio when we got into the harbor and the harbor master said if we could wait 5 minutes they would have a dock for us. Well 5 turned into 10 and the wind was blowing pretty good so we (by we I mean Ginny) had to drive in circles for a while. The dock master finally called and said to come on in to dock 22. Ginny did another great job docking in the wind because she had to pass the dock and turn around in the channel to get back to the dock. I thought words would start flying, but we both kept our mouths closed and made it in. I think we were very lucky to get a dock because they were full and we are right on the main dock across from and surrounded by the big boats. Harbor Springs is a very nice little city and they have a lot of shops and food choices. The dock is also right down town so there is a lot of foot traffic. We are going to be here two nights so we waited until right before dinner to walk around town. Most of the stores were closed but they will be open tomorrow. We had a good lunch at the Pier Restaurant and dinner at the New York. When we were coming back from dinner there was a concert in the marina park. I think it was the local community band and they were playing tunes from Camelot. I asked the band leader if they know Carmen Ohio or Hang on Sloopy but he said not (just kidding). We were looking for a sunset because we were on the West side but instead we got a great full moon rising. Tomorrow, our friends from our home port are driving up because they have some business here and we are going to meet for dinner. It turns out that the niece of our friends from out home town live in Petoskey and her husband is the city manager. We are trying to hook up with them when we are in Charlevoix on Wednesday.
