Farley State Marina
We left Cape May on Sunday morning at our usual early time of 6 A.M. We left with "Kismet", "Native Son", "Marc's Ark", "Jim's Joy", "The Zone" and "Sea Smoke" on a very nice day. The weather was supposed to be good with the waves out of the West so we would get protection from the land. The trip was only 45 miles so we arrived at our dock pretty early. We stayed at the Farley State Marina which is in front of the Golden Nugget Casino. The docks are great with plenty of space to maneuver and dock. Sunday, Ginny and I went to the casino and we had only played slots for a few minutes when Marc called and said they were all going to the Atlantic City Boardwalk. You have to take a mini bus called the Jitney, that runs between all of the casinos plus two of the casinos on the boardwalk. There were 10 of us so we had to split up but we all met and walked around for a while. It was crowded and hot which are not my favorite things, so we walked a short while and then took a taxi back with Rich and Merry K. Originally we were going to leave on Monday for Sandy Hook but the weather did not look very good so we decided to stay until Wednesday. We didn't do much on Monday. On Tuesday Marc was having a diver come over and check his zincs so "Kismet" and I decided to have him look at ours also. We all needed to have a couple replaced, so it was a good thing we checked. One of my shaft zincs had fallen off so it was replaced with a spare that Jim had. We all went to dinner on Tuesday night and tried to get to bed early because we had 100 miles to travel on Wednesday. We also originally planned to stay in a marina near Sandy Hook, NJ but we read in the forum that the marina was not good so we found a marina in Staten Island which was a little further but we felt better about it.

Nichols Park Marina
On Wednesday morning we left at 5:30 A.M. because we had an 11 hour day ahead. "Marc's Ark" and "Native Son" left later because they were going to Manasquan which was a shorter distance than Sandy Hook. The waves were 3'-5' but they were rolling with no white caps. It was a very boring and long day so we were very glad to see the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in the distance. We were not going to go under the bridge until the next day but it was quite a sight. Basically the trip was North in the Atlantic until Sandy Hook and then we turned West and went all the way across the Raritan Bay to Nichols Park Marina in Great Kills Harbor on Staten Island. The marina is not really a transient marina so they don't have dock hands waiting to take your lines. There is a long floating dock that they said we could tie up to and it was pretty easy to get into. We had a quick happy hour, swapped stories and then Ginny and I ordered a pizza for delivery.
