Chesapeake City Docks
May 30, 2012
We left Baltimore on Wednesday morning early with "Erika Lin" and "Native Son". The Chesapeake Bay was calm so we had a nice run but it was a little long. Chesapeake City is on the D&C Canal that connects Chesapeake Bay to Delaware Bay. The canal is not very wide but wide enough and deep enough. We arrived at our usual early afternoon time and were able to dock at the free city dock. Well, the dock is free but electric is $15 and if you want water it is $10. We didn't need water so we only paid $15 which is fantastic compared to what we have been paying. There is only enough room for three boats so it was perfect. We went to City Hall to pay our fee and then walked around a little. It is a very small town so it didn't take much time. There is a museum near by but we didn't go. There are a few good restaurants on site but we saved even more money and ate on the boat. When we were having happy hour before dinner Beth and Dean from "Kismet" showed up in a car with Beth's mother and sister. It turns out they were in a marina a few miles up river and were having dinner at the Chesapeake Inn. We talked for a while and agreed to travel together the next day to Cape May. The D&C Canal gets a lot of commercial traffic so you need to pay attention. We turned in early so we could be fresh for the next day.
Usually the tugs push the boats but this time they pulled it

May 31 - June 2, 2012
On Thursday morning we left Chesapeake City at 6:00 for the run down the Delaware Bay to Cape May. We have been reading how bad the bay can be so we were prepared by putting everything down on the floor. When we first got into the bay it was a little snotty but it calmed down and the rest of the trip was fine. Cape May is at the southern end of New Jersey and is an old and historic beach town. There were quite a few Looper boats so we got to meet some new Loopers and talk to couples we have not seen in a while. We stayed close to the boat on Thursday and ate on the boat. On Friday we relaxed and then a bunch of us went to dinner at the Lobster House which was very good. Saturday we took a tour bus of the historic district and I was quite surprised at how many nice historic houses there are and what good shape they are in. After the tour we walked on the boardwalk and enjoyed the good weather. We had dinner at another good restaurant called Lucky Bones. We really liked Cape May and would visit again but we are off to Atlantic City on Sunday.

Hotel
My grandmom owned and lived in the blue house - one of the Seven Sisters properties in Cape May. I have many great memories of that place. Glenn
