Best Steak Ever

Yesterdays weather was so bad that we kind of expected today to be bad also.  We did wait until about 8:30 to leave but that was mostly because we didn't want to navigate around the large boat next to us and he was leaving, so we waited for him.  The sun was out but the waves were still about 2-3 so we just went slow and things got much better by the time we hit Cheboygan.  We only went about 40 miles so it was a nice trip.  Right before we turned into the harbor we say the Mackinaw bridge way in the distance.  We docked at the Cheboygan County Marina which is the first marina after entering the river.  This meant that we would have a little walk into town.  We could have gone to the city docks farther down the river which is close to town but the walk did us good.  The city is very nice and there are a lot of touristy shops.  We spent a couple of hours in town and then walked back and took the dingy down the river to where we just walked.  The walk may have been good for us but the dinghy ride was so much better.  There is a Coast Guard station across the river and there is a large ship stationed there.  We saw it come into the river turn around go back out and then back in again.  They were probably practicing.  Now for the steak.  When we were in Rogers City yesterday we went to a local butcher shop named Plath's and bought a thick ribeye steak that we cooked tonight and it was fantastic.  Ginny and I both love a good steak and this was much better than going out and besides I already had my walk.  I am really glad that so many people are following us on our trip.  We have received many emails and phone calls and we really appreciate all of them, it keeps us connected.  I wish our son would call us but maybe he will be shamed into calling now.  We are going to either Mackinaw City tomorrow or maybe even Mackinac Island marina for a few days.

This is a ferry to Bois Blanc island which is pretty close

They had a nice dog park in the city.

The side is cut out because the ship is a buoy tender which means they set and retrieve navigation buoys

  1. Too many great memories, crossing the lake on the ferry when we were kids, and then crossing on the bridge the first year it opened. Thanks for the pix. Safe journey,
